The benefits of yoga are many. Someone who attends a yoga class once a week, can expect over weeks or months to:
- Become more flexible
- Improve their posture
- Be able to relax better
- Become more body-aware
- Increase the efficiency of their breathing
- Have improved balance
- Tone their muscles and strengthen muscle groups
The more you practice, the greater the benefits. Regular pranayama, or breathing practice, can reduce cravings and help with the management of addictions or weight. It can give you more energy by improving your breathing patterns. Yoga practice can have a big impact on stress levels (the more you are able to practice, the better), and yoga philosophy and meditation which are introduced in my classes, can have an impact on how you deal with stressful situations in your life. Asana practice (the postures) can ease back problems and prevent them, and each practice has its own specific benefits which are too numerous to mention here - from an energising or relaxing effect, to easing menstrual pains, to preventing piles!
Every student will have their own personal goals and many go on to do courses or special workshops and retreat to develop their knowledge and experience of a particular aspect of yoga or a particular type of yoga.
"Your classes are just what I need!" (Yoga student)
